Project – Cemetery Fence (2008)

So I had many ideas for a fence and a lot of them were costly and take more time then I currently have available. I wasn’t really finding anything that worked for me. Until a rainbow formed of my graveyard. And it is all because of this guy and his idea. Basically the only cost is however you decide to keep it standing. I’m not sure if I’ll use his method, I’m thinking some U joints hammered into the ground like stakes.

I luckily hooked up with Michael’s here who were begging for people to take away their pallets. They said they weren’t in great shape, but I’m like “Hellz yeah, even better!” So I went at it. Here is the progress so far…

Had to cut off the one two by four, and the point off the tops

We set some up to check on spacing and look...

About 12 done, need another 8, hopefully I can get some.

It’s a great concept that cost nothing, as long as I can keep finding someone to give me these for free, I can keep making my cemetery bigger and bigger and it won’t cost me much. Plus all the little crap pieces of wood are great for little projects. The weathered look is great. After Halloween I’m going to keep them uncovered out in the elements snow and cold can only make them look that much better for next year.

Update: 10/13/2008

We now have finally got all the fence pieces cut and put into the ground, my arms were tired by the end of the day from swinging the sledge hammer. Thanks to Greg and my dad for helping out with this.

Here we laid out all the pieces to make sure we had enough.

Then we had to attach some sort of stake to the pieces so we could get it to stay into the ground, I have been contemplating what to do here for quite some time now. I had a couple different thoughts, but having no money makes your options a lot less. Then I remembered we had all those 1×1’s for the coffin trim that we never ended up using. So I got them into 12″ pieces with a point on the end and we secured two to each section of fence.

Here we have the stakes attached, it made them surprisingly stable

Then we hammered all the pieces into the ground, the couple following of photos show it from different degrees of completion.
